Reporting animal cruelty in Miami-Dade
Who to call, what to write down, and how to make a report that can be acted on.
If you think a dog is being hurt or neglected, reporting it is the right thing to do. You don't need to be certain.
Who to call
- Cruelty happening right now: 911.
- Neglect or past cruelty: Miami-Dade Animal Services at 311 or 305-468-5900, or its online animal welfare concern form.
- Tethering concerns: MDAS lists 305-743-7433.
- The State Attorney's Animal Cruelty Unit handles prosecutions: 305-547-0520.
What to write down
- The address or exact location.
- Dates and times you saw what happened.
- What you saw and heard, in plain words.
- Photos or video, if you can take them safely and legally, from a public place.
Stay safe
Don't confront anyone, trespass or try to remove an animal yourself. Let the agencies do their job, and follow up if nothing changes.
