Ask the organization

• What supplies, food and medications do you provide?
• Which vet do I use, and who pays?
• Who do I call in an emergency, and after hours?
• How long is this placement likely to last?
• Do my pets need to be vaccinated or kept separate?
• How do adoption meet-and-greets work?

Get your home ready

• A separate, quiet space for the foster dog
• Secure leash, collar or harness with an ID tag
• Crate or gate for safe downtime
• Dog-proofed the space
• Household agrees on routines and rules

When the dog arrives

• Paperwork and medical records received
• Kept the dog apart from my pets until cleared
• Started a simple daily routine
• Taking notes and photos to help the dog get adopted
